William Pamplin (1806-1899), botanist, was born in Chelsea. He worked in his father's nursery before acquiring a bookselling business in Soho, where he published botanical works. In 1854 he became the owner of The phytologist . He carried out botanical tours in Wales and Scotland during the 1850s, and settled at Llandderfel, Merionethshire, in 1862, where he established a herbarium. He was a member of the Linnean Society.
